Just picked up this '79 toyota pickup off of craigslist about a week ago. I got a killer deal on it. It has a 20r which has 14k on the rebuild, and 188k on the truck. I mainly got it to beat around in this winter. It will be my beater truck for now, and Ill slowly build it up over time. So far I have put a heater core and thermostat in it, tuned it up, got all the lights working, got it inspected, tags on it, etc...
here what it looked like when I got it...

I didn't like the chrome wheels at all, so I had the wheels blasted and I sprayed them with a single stage gloss black. Then I mounted up some new 31x10.50 mud claws. Made the truck look 100x's better i think.

I started building a rear bumper out of 5x3 box tubing for it tonight. It should be done in the next few days. Ill post some pics of it when I get it finished up.
Next big things are...a 3 inch lift, and some kinda locker.

Sweet rig! I have had a 79 sr5 for about 7 years or so. The first thing I saw in the pics was the factory cb!

 for the Grandpa of all Toyota trucks!!!

i didnt even think it was legal to find a first gen yota unrusted/not chopped up liek that on the east coast! awesome truck

I finished up all the welding on the rear bumper Ive been working on for this thing this weekend. I should have it sprayed in gloss black to match the wheels, and bolted back up sometime this week. :smokin:

What year is the silver bug in the backround. And are those semiphores I see on the side. Used to have a 57 oval rag top with semiphores. Love air cooled VW's. Very nice truck too by the way.

Its my 56 euro oval, and yes it does have semiphores. The black one is my OG paint 65. I pretty much bought this toyota to keep my vws off the road this winter.

I got my rear bumper all painted and bolted up this weekend. Also I rebuilt my carb, and put all new vac hoses on it (all 16 foot of it).

Well I rebuilt the carb, and it didnt seam to help at all, so I just ordered a weber 36/32 progressive setup for it. Slapped it on and she runs better than ever. The weber really woke this little 20r up thats for sure.
Heres a few better pics of the rear bumper and of the truck as of now. Its looking better and better with every little thing I do, atleast I think so haha.

Those old Toyotas really love a Weber carb. The headers work well with them too. I think a guy on here has one for sale cheap, IIRC. I have done quite a few. Actually about to put a 38/38 and a header on my FJ60 Land Cruiser tonight. :wheel:

Nice VW in the background too.

I've got a Weber on mine also. Have you guys had to tune them at all? I've only got about 5 miles on mine since install about a year ago, (been sitting waiting on $$ for parts). I've heard they are extremely tunable but was wondering in any has been necessary for you. Ie for hils or running rich or lean etc?
