Different spline engagement on different housing.

I just replaced the axle housing for my Ford 9 inch because I bent the old housing.

It is a stock semi float unit.

I'm using my same shafts, and the bearing races are pressed all the way in.
I'm not getting quite as much spline engagement as I used to.

See picture.

Any ideas why?

You can see the two different wear marks.

It is about the same difference on each side as far as old versus new.

The housing is measured the same from flange to flange.

Is this enough spline engagement to not worry about it?

Whats the depth of the spider gears or locker the splines are sliding into?
I am honestly not sure. I looked at another set of shafts that I have laying around and they were only engaging half way from ford.
My bearing retainer is pressed on as far as it can go.

its fine, the engagement should be as deep as the shaft is wide.

Is the carrier or locker different on this one vs the old one? The 9" has some interesting offsets and dimension variables between parts. Either way, looks like you have enough engagement. Is your wheel bearing able to seat and be preloaded?

Everything is the same except the housing.
I just cut all my brackets off and welded them to the new housing.
Wheel Bearings are fine.

The other side had less engaged than the picture. Just slightly more than half.... has me kinda worried.
