One Ton 2nd gen Tacoma Build

Anti-wrap bar is in. Diff fluid in front. Rear brakes were metal on metal. Changed those.
Toyota to 60 flange showed up. Hopefully @Oliver's finishes up my front shaft in time. I’ll need to drill my t-case flange for the older yota pattern.

Enjoying the build, makes me miss the simplicity of leaves.

I have a suggestion on your traction bar. I've built a few and had a couple failures years back.

You've created a bending point at the bottom of your small brace. The rotation in green will try to bend the bar at the red area. I would suggest triangulating on a truss style fashion (blue) to spread the load.

I see. I should have made it like the one in my YJ. It was all .120 wall so I added more braces. The lower on this is .188 wall. I didn’t think it was an issue. Should I for sure go back and add some more triangles?

I really only added the one bar to keep it from pulling when I welded it, but you are much more experienced than I am. :smokin:

Made some quick bump stop mounts. Had the Wheelers Superbumps from the IFS set up which is also what’s in the rear.

front driveshaft flange yoke and u-joint broke.
I think the front axle is wrapping too much.

Took a chunk out of a wheel

Bent my passenger slider box.

Power steering pump blew a seal out.

Drag link hit the frame and bent the link end. Now it rides the spring and gets into the idler pulley.
So I guess I’ll notch the frame on the passenger side to clear the drag link.
 
I bet it would make getting steering packaged a bitch if he moved the crossmember up.

@Van-go I'm not sure what tire size you plan to run but I would try and move the axle far enough forward to leave a 1-2" of clearance at the firewall.

Good call. Packaging this steering is still a bitch... Got to notch the passenger frame rail for my drag link now.
 
I hate to see so much stuff break on you. Great build by the way.
I don’t mind it. It’s a new build and one I’ve never seen anyone else do. Didn’t really have anything to base it on being so new. Most people 3 link things this new. I decided to go back 30 years in suspension technology :D
 
Pump is in. Box rebuilt. Need some lines made now.
Next to notch the frame and modify the drag link.

Shout out to Alliance Hose in Greensboro. Walked in and they put a new AN fitting on my pressure side line for the PSC pump free of charge and I was done in less than 5 minutes.

Also, been messing around with a cooler I had laying around. Figured I should run one to keep the new pump from getting too hot.

I want to run some sort of power steering filter. Anyone have experience with the inline filters?

I put “rare earth” magnets on the bottom of the reservoir to help catch some stuff.

Inlet to PS reservoir moved lower to keep it below fluid level.

I've installed the magnapure filters, which are not much more than a screen and a strong magnet (neodynium probably).. there are inline transmission filters available, that may actually have a filter element.
 
New pump made a huge difference. Quicker steering. Less lag. It does look like it’s leaking around the pulley shaft though... kinda bummed.
I ended up putting a little in line filter in.

Started in the rear rack/cage.
Gonna do a ladder rack looking cage on the rear. Got the main hoop started.
I want to be able to throw a kayak on top or some lumber if needed. Also protects the rear cab corner.
First time really working with the bender @hurt4x4 and I bought.

Got the main hoop figured out. Had to cut some out of the middle to draw it in closer. Still figuring out this bender.
Notches were spot on this time though.

Not sure how I feel about it yet.
This is the main part, but more tube will be added for bracing and probably will make a rack from above the fuel cell to the back for coolers, etc.
maybe an “X” behind the cab for side to side strength. I need something to keep it sturdier front to back though.

This is what Cutler did with the S10 I had. Maybe it’ll give you some ideas about cross bracing. Really depends on how much structure support you’re looking for. I liked to lean up against trees with mine.
