I just realized that I did not post any pics of the front axle....Dana 60 out of an 04 superduty. Got it stripped down and brackets cut off of it a month or so ago.

Nice work Nakoma!
Oh I completely understand....Life's like that at times!

Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Thank you sir! And you have a Merry Christmas too.

And here is a couple pics of the axle and knuckles cleaned up. I also picked up a set of bead locks from Robbie.

These will be the last pics until I make some progress.....I have to remember Larry’s advise...stay off the forum and go build something!

You gonna run some Ball Joint eliminators it keeps the ball joints?

Not sure what those are. I’ll have to research that. I am going to send them off for machining for high steer arms.

Let me rephrase that then...

You need to run ball joint eliminators, and me and @Chris_Keziah will bring you up to speed shortly. Lol

Are those even necessary if this is going to be a pretty light rig? I’ve seen a handful of builds so far with SD60s and no one has had any issues with ball joints. Are super duty ball joints a bad design?

I figure if we have all settled for ball joints on Dana 30 and Dana 44 then SD60 ball joints are going to be safe.

Perhaps not but for what we’re doing it’s a good idea to change the ball joints yearly and that adds up, not to mention at some point you’d need oversized joints. I could be wrong about that. But for less than $300ish the eliminators make it much much stronger and less need for service.

Also, after Harlan in August his plans for this build changed quickly. Nakoma got a taste of some big tire wheeling and some full throttle beat downs :driver:. More of the same around the corner to fuel his fire!

So if I were building one from scratch like he is I’d go with the eliminators. Now say you swap in one trying to make it quick and easy, I’d run the ball joints but once it was time to replace the ball joints I’d upgrade.

In typing this, I remember that he intends to have this rig very road worthy and I can’t remember if you can run them in the road or not so that may be a major factor.

Not sure on a 60 but I've read of several people running toy axles on the road with BJEs and zero issue.

Edit. I meant trunnion bearing eliminators on the toy axle but should be very similar

With the help of @Joe J. We got the frame rework done this weekend! Still have the fish plates to install and I still have to get the trusses for the axles but I’m pretty happy with the progress. Also thanks to @Chris_Keziah and @Jody Treadway both of whom gave the suggestion of doing a subframe type design and it was a great idea!

Wow!!! Very Impressive!!!
I'm at awe at your work and progress!!!

Maaaaan....so many cool things going on this month that I wish I had 2 seconds to be apart of :( (stupid moving)

This certainly being one of them...this is gonna be awesome
