Alright, now that I have your attention, lol.

I just put this hood vent in at one of my dad's rentals.

What's the correct way to flash this vent to keep water from going behind the siding? I've seen people silicone them, but I'm really not a fan of that.

it needs flashing on top. and then a J trim piece on at least 3 sides, top and sides. but thats going to require removing at least a few pieces of siding
That stinks. It's not bad to remove though. I had it off to cut it and the wall out.

I knew i needed to flash the top, but didn't know how. Thanks
 
Isn't it ironic that BTL shows up in a thread about flashing...

The more i read and watch video's, it seems the bottom of the J-channel would just allow the water collected to go right into the siding. Am I missing something? This place was built before house wrap was required, so it's just osb directly under the siding. I guess the flashing over the top would, pretty much, keep the water out anyway.

I grabbed a pic to help with explanation.

I realize @Loganwayne did not say it needed j-channel on the bottom, but it would finish out the look.
