Ohlins has been around forever in the powersports and motorcycle world. My understanding is that they are excellent quality.

Looks like it's got adjustable compression and maybe rebound. The shaft looks to be only 5/8" Thats probably a little small for a solid axle setup. It may be better suited for a long travel rail.

Do you have any more info on them?

I realize ohlins makes great stuff for bikes and rally guys, but they are kind of like microsoft trying to break into smartphones here it seems like. The tiny res hose, microfine adjuster thread, and bushing ends don't really appeal to the offroad crowd that much.

I agree. I'm saying I don't think that shock is intended for a rock crawler application.

Sent from the MarsFab Off Road mobile response unit.

Yeah I don't really foresee them being the next big thing. They probably use a digressive piston like Bilsteins that bring the suck for the offroad crowd. The technology that works on road doesn't work offroad 90% of the time. If they ran a metering rod all the way thru that shaft for rebound adjustment it definitely would not hold up in that length.
More specs would be cool though, it kinda looks like an aluminum body too.

A long standing product in the Öhlins Off-Road range, the ORQ has recently been updated to feature a swivel hose for improved flow and fitment flexibility. This is a 46mm monotube damper utilising a hose-mounted remote reservoir. Adjustable in both compression and rebound, and also featuring Ohlins PDS (Progressive Damping System) for handling the roughest terrain you can throw at it. These dampers have been used in some of the harshest off-road environments on the planet, and have successfully completed multiple Dakar rallies in one piece.

ORQ dampers are available off-the-shelf in a range of sizes with a standard valving. However the valving and hardware can be altered to suit the customers specific requirements.

Key Features:
  • High quality lightweight construction
  • Gas pressurised with Nitrogen to reduce oil cavitation
  • 2-way adjustable with independent compression and rebound damping, providing 20+ clicks of compression and 40+ clicks of rebound adjustment
  • External hose mounted canister with swivel joint
  • Fitted with Öhlins PDS (Progressive Damping System) to handle the roughest terrain

  • Built-in temperature compensation adapts to changes in oil temperature to give ultra consistent damping
  • Threaded spring platforms on damper body for spring preload adjustment, accomodating 2.25" springs
  • All dampers are dyno tested and matched before delivery to the customer.
  • Dampers can be revalved to suit specific customer requirements.
  • Fully rebuildable by an Ohlins trained damper engineer
Typical application for this damper is Off-Road, Rally, and Rally Raid vehicles.

Prices from £750 each or $1216.50

Yup that about sums it up. But the one we have in the pic is the 50mm not the 46. It's definitely seem to be more oriented towards high velocity, high travel independent susp trucks... Baja/ trophy stuff. Max travel we can do is 11 inches right now. Retail is $1445 US the coolest part is they are super progressive with the PDS secondary piston... Like having a hydro stop inside the shock. If anyone is interested in more info email me. eric.knight@ohlinsusa.com

Try a 1/3 of the price max.

Send me some info, I want to know about this super progressive piston. I may be able to use this in the UTV world

Well.. Im not familiar with the features of a fox and not that fox is a bad shock either. But Ohlins product fit and finish, anodizing, materials used, machining, damping ranges are second to none for sure. Most of the products we sell are usually to race teams who have their own suspension engineers, simply because of the ease of working on them and customizing to a specific purpose... Oh and most of our stuff comes with a 5 year warrantee too. Its just in the world of shocks I haven't seen many with the quality of our stuff.
