'00 wj water pump replacement help

i was in the process of trying to replace my water pump when i got to the point where i was trying to take off the large nut that mounts the fan to the pump. the chiltons says it's right hand thread and turn it counterclockwise (i'm assuming as you are facing the vehicle). on the ju forum one guy says clockwise and another says counterclockwise. if it is right hand thread wouldn't you have to turn the nut clockwise as you are facing the front of the vehicle to loosen it? anybody who has any experience with this i would certainly appreciate a little clarification.

Its a counterclock wise as you are looking at the motor.

I thought those Jeep engines were disposable? When anything breaks, you just throw it away and get a new one.
