04 Chevy Tahoe - Randomly putting itself in 4lo

My wife's driver and it's happened to her about 6 times, and it's happened to me at least 4 times lately. You go get in it and it's in 4 lo for no reason, sometimes it will flash service 4wd then clears itself. Must happen between parking it and starting it up the next morning(I mean on power down and up, not during the night per se), and no she's not hitting the button (she's like me, would rather have a lever in the floor and take a walk to lock the hubs in). I don't know how it's happening, you never hear the "clunk" into 4 lo, but it's deffinately in it because you have to "clunk" it back thru 4 hi, N into 2 hi. Give me some hints.

I think I'm finally done with GM now, this will be my last, I guess it's Ford, Dodge or Toyota from here on out.
 
Usually the swith on the dash going out, sometimes if you hold the 2 wheel drive button down and give it a good wack it will fix it for a little while, they are bad for goin out
