04 yamaha kodiak 450 (need some help!!!!)

i bought a 04 kodiak 450 3 days ago, got it dirt cheap, runs but starts to stutter at about 10 mph, kind of like most 4 wheelers do in reverse w/ the rev limiter, but in forward gear. Here is the funny part, when it is in forward motion and the stutter starts, the reverse light pops on and the temp. light as well, any help would be greatly appreciated. btw the previous owner said he had taken the plastics off for some reason and that was when this prob. began?

sounds like a limit switch to me. I think I would check the reverse switch on the handle bar first.

NOT ONE ON THE HANDLE BARS? HAS GEAR SELECTOR ON THE FENDER

it is normal in reverse, is stutters like it is supposed to
