What do I do?
Aftermarket or stock? Or my buddy at the machine shop said he could try to drill and sprayweld it.

Aftermarket would be best i reckon..don't know much about diesels.
I would just get it wleded though. cheapest way

is this a comon issue?

You won't find a 3 piece for a common rail motor. You will find either one or two piece. If you do some research, you will find that there are tons of companies making manifolds now. Just a few years back ATS was the only way to go with a two piece. Now you have several options. AFE and HTT both have stainless one piece manifolds which fit great and look great. They aren't much more money than a two piece iron manifold. Don't buy the cheapest one you can find. There is a company out there that is making a cheap manifold around $300. I installed one of these a couple months ago and it took forever to get the holes lined up because when it was put together at the factory they didn't line the holes up like they should have. The problem with a factory manifold on a 3rd gen is the #5 cylinder is going into the same tube as the #4 cylinder which builds up a lot of heat. #5 doesn't flow as much as the other cylinders and can potentially result in a #5 piston failure.

This is not very common in a 3rd gen truck but it is known to happen. It was very common in a 2nd gen 24 valve motor (98.5-02) between #3 and #4 cylinders.

I also have a stock manifold with about 60k miles in good shape that I will sell you for $75 if you don't want to spend the money on an aftermarket.

I hate to highjack, but while we're on this subject, nobody has a manifold for a 6.7 truck they would wanna get rid of do they? I wanna do a vgt turbo swap and haven't been able to locate a manifold.

Ok let me know. And you can get new gaskets for it at car quest for about $15 for the manifold. I'm not sure how much the turbo gasket will be.

Yeah then he will be buying injectors instead of an exhaust manifold :flipoff2:

I can testify to this milage. And If I remember right, it was even in the low 20's towing to Gulches, wasn't it? I was way impressed.

no not masked just putting in my two cents. not a cummins hater just saying i have a 06 dmax with 112,000 towing miles and i have changed my oil and fuel filter thats it. I know the next comment will be that someone knows someone that has a cummins that has 4,000,000 miles and it pulls alaska to the lower 48 every weekend. But everyone i know with a cummins and yes they are freinds of mine have needed fuel pumps, lift pumps, transmissions, water pumps just to make them run right. just saying

I don't hate duramax's but you wanna start bringing up problems lets talk about all of the injector issues, holes in transfer cases, and yes transmission problems. Allison's have their share of problems as well. No doubt Dodge has one of the weakest tranny's on the market. And yes 2nd gen trucks have pump problems. It's all in what you buy. Buy a 3rd gen dodge with a manual trans and you will definitely have less problems than any other diesel out there.

my truck has 240,000 on an auto that the previous owner claims has never been into and i have no complaints on shifting even pulling 10k. And yes kyle is right it got around 20 pulling my 4300lb tj on a 16 ft car hauler from charlotte to gulches.

That's impressive. You have 240k on an 06?

Yep it was owned by a diesel repair company called industrial service in ms. I guess it was a service truck but its not filthy like a typical work truck. This truck has been serviced religiously.
