My Dad has a 2008 6.4 diesel F250, recently he said it has been idling (sp?) high while hes sittin still in park.
3 times were in hot weather, but today it started doing it and its cool out. He will be sitting in the driveway with it in park, and it will just start climbing RPM's. it gets significantly louder, but not like its gonna blow the engine type of rpms.
anyone know why? is this common for these trucks?

Probably going through Regen...

regen is a cycle that the truck goes through. It stays in this cycle until the computer is happy with the readings from the DPF....the cycle will happen whether your in park, reverse, drive, 4x4 or 2x4. The truck does not come out if regen when you step on the brake, all that does is make it easier on the drivetrain when you put the truck gear by bringing down the RPMs, regen is still happening.....if you keep your foot in the brake after awhile the RPMs will go back up to 1100 or so ...

That wold be my initial thought.

There are some diesel techs on here that could steer you to a more clear answer!

I would do a serach on some of the powerstroke forums, and see if anything pops up....

i don't guess thats the motor idling up to burn the caught sulfur out of the filter. im not sure how that works

I thought you only got an active regen when you were driving? Doesn't the driver have to initiate a parked regen by hitting a switch? Maybe this works different on the superdutys...
