got a 76 1/2 ton k5, that im wanting to swap a 1 ton rear into, question is what all needs to be done to swap this axle. oh and the kicker is the 14ff is not out of a 73-87 truck its out of a the new body style trucks, its a 93 3500. does anyone know if this matters being that its out of a new truck, is the axle width the same?spring perches in same location? any help would be appreciated

just relized i posted this in general tech instead of axles/suspension my appoligies

I'm pretty sure the WMS is just a little wider on the newer 14 bolts. Also, the drums are on the outside of the hubs on the newer axles compared to the inside of the older version. I'm not sure if the typcial disk brake kit will work on the newer version. Gubni on the board sells the disc brake kits and probably knows.

I'm going to guess the spring perches are farther apart on the newer model axle, but truly don't know.

It will be 1.25" width difference on either side for the leaf perches. If you are lifted, this is a good time to cut the ones off the 14b, move them out, and degree your pinion angle about 9 degrees.
