so my truck as seen at truck pics (hit the reload button if link fails to load first time thanks to glitchy internet) had someone pull in front of it while going 35 down the road the other day. Front bumper was bent into the front end sheetmetal and right front leaf broke at the hanger. All mechanicals and electronics are fine including axles.

the Actual Cash Value as determined by them was $8750 (is this even close to fair? should i try and document bumper and axle stuff either way? or am i just screwed and stand chance to waste time getting money) They origionally wanted 875 to buy it back and i was going to part it out for sure which would have me in the ball park of best case selling it price.

Insurance Co wants 1600 instead of thier origional estimate for buyback. If i do this i have to recoup my expenses and labor which includes towing from graham to raleigh and hiring someone to help cut it up quickly,

Specs '79 ford hi pinion kingpin Dana 60 front, 14 bolt 44 with disc brake rear, both geared to 4.88 both completely rebuilt with new bearings and kingpins etc ($1500 obo)

oh yeah front axle has PSC hi steer arms with the multiple holes and a 1 ton tre drag link/tie rod allready all made up too

Good running driving tbi 305/4l60e/floorshifted np241 well maintained 128k miles with no smoke or significant leaks ($1k with computer and guages etc obo)

H2 rims and tires with 80% tread ($300obo)

interest (if so lets see how much $) ? opinions? I need to have this stuff pre sold and want it gone if possible by the end of the week if i pick the truck up this week.

everything located in raleigh, if i part it out i can hold parts as long as i know they are sold

plus any body panels etc

i am interested in the axles and the rims if you decide to part them out. let me know...

What size tire on those rims?

Damn, that sucks James. Any pictures of the car you hit??

The tires are 35" BFG Ats on 17" H2 wheels im pretty sure.

I would be interested in the H2 rims and tires if you decide to part out, if the tires are 35's and not 37's. I just got my 8-lug axles, and was planning on looking for a set of those. Would love to come check them out in Raleigh.

That thing got "totalled" with a 35 mph impact??? Wow. Must have hit a a friggin tank. If their sayin its only worth 8750 and the damage is just a spring hanger and some sheetmetal, why not fix it and keep on driving it? If you havent taken any money from your insurance agency yet the title is still clean.
And about documenting the axle and bumper value, you can do that but it has to be done before an accident.

Put pressure on the insurance company to get them to increase their valuation of the truck. They have to compensate for things you've done like the bumper and the SAS. Just get a price from a similar bumper on-line, and get a quote from a shop stating how much it would cost to do SAS, and the cost of the on-ton axles, gears, lockers, lift, and all mods you have done. They will not compensate you for what they consider regular maintenance (like new shocks), but they will give you part of the money for your mods. You won't get the full value of the mods, but you'll get some. And use the highest prices you can find - they will get their own estimates, and will try to discount some of your mods.

They will try to cheat you, so you have to argue with them about it. Also mention back and neck pain or stiffness. They will offer you $800-$1000 to get you to sign a waiver stating that you won't pursue any further health-related claims. I am *not* suggesting that you fake injuries.

I have one friend who has been through this twice with totalled cars, and two more who just went through it once. The ins. companies *always* try to low-ball you on the price, so be prepared to fight back. If you fight, and get some money to sign the health-claim waiver, then you'll end up gettting a fair price in the end because that money makes up the difference between them low-balling you on the value of your vehicle.

It sucks that it has to work like this.

Also on the buy-back - they usually have a set percentage, like 10-15% of the valuation. Make them put this percentage in writing. It sounds like they quoted you 10% buy-back and then bumped it up to 20% to try to get more money from you.

Man I really hate this stuff. :(

sometimes it works out ok though. one of my friends got his GC "totaled" when someone ran him off the road. insurance gave him like 7k (it was the first year GC came out, like 93 i think) and he bought it back for 400. we sold all of his stuff off of it (OME lift, MTR's, bumpers, roof rack, stereo etc) for 2k, and he bought a jetta and saved some of the money. not a bad deal if you ask me

Oh - almost forgot. If you decide *not* to buy back this truck, and they will *not* compensate you for your mods, then you should be able to go pull some of the mods off the truck before it is officially "theirs".

My friend's daughter just totalled her Nissan Sentra, and he got to go to the towing yard and pull the whole aftermarket stereo system out of it if he put the old one back in the car. He did that. They told him to just leave the old head unit and speakers in the front seat of the car.

Another friend did that with his Acura Integra when it got totalled from flood damage. Pulled off his aftermarket rims and replaced them with some cheap wheels/tires he picked up from a junkyard.

If you can at least break even on a few things buy it back and part.

So you get 6K and keep the truck? Is that correct?

james i have a 10 bolt in the front yard, its 6 lug but has rollers on it, if you wanna swap it in...

I'm definitely interested in the wheels/tires. As part of the deal, I can bring you 8-lug or 6-lug roller wheels/tires that hold air if you need them.

May even have a roller 6-lug rear axle too if that helps.
