94 xj beaten and battered, aw4 203/205 D60's front and rear 5.38's. Ok now that's out the way lets get to my questions. I run a 42 SXII on H1 8 bolt's. I'm fairly happy with the tire but under some conditions it sucks. This past summer in Harlan at the NAXJA crawl a friend was running Treps. He was walking over stuff and climbing stuff I struggled on and even could not get over. I've looked for a sticky compound tire but all I can find is the Iroc. I think part of the problem is the tires are so heavy the old straight 6 is at its limit. How does the Irok compare to the trep and my SXII? I'm considering motor mods and chopping up the beat-up body to lighten it. Thoughts? Suggestions on other tires in the 16.5" rim size? Thanks!

The Irok sticky & 43 SX sticky are the only ones in a 16.5 size. There is a noticible difference between the performance of a sticky and non-sticky tire. That said the Irok is ~100lb per tire vs the SX2 which is ~130lb. Going with a lighter tire/wheel combo can definately help, but depends on what you ride as to whether the Irok would be a good switch from a TSL style tire. Folks that have ran both say there is a big difference between the 42" SXII & the 43" SX, even non sticky.

Go 17" like all the cool kids are doing :flipoff2:

Yea so that would be a 220 weight savings alone going to the Irok. I don't really want to go up in tire size either. So that limits me to the Irok. Right now I make a long trip every summer up to Harlan and the rest of the year I wheel URE and other places around the SE. Gulches being the other main place. My kids are older and driving now so they are going to be wheeling their own xj.

Yea about that...... $3700 for tires and wheels all at once is really hard to do on a $200 xj.... ;) This thing has been built in stages of no more then $1500 paid out at a time. :flipoff2:

Wasn't it much easier when we were on half tons? Lol

I got Iroks and thought about going to Sxs. Maybe we could meet at Harlan and trade for a day.

That would be a great way to figure it out. What are you running them on?

Yea I would be that your rig would work with these tires. The straight 6 is a great motor but I think that and the auto are part of my problem.

My son Mac5005 runs the 42 sx II on YJ with 4.0 stroker and 5:38 tons. He does very well. That's why I was thinking sxII are better than iroks. We go to Harlan couple of times a year. May be we could meet and trade tires for day to see the difference. I wouldn't be quick to get iroks. I probably build a stroker, pretty good bang for the buck.

Yea I'm sure the stroker makes a huge difference. What transmission?
