I just bought a 1977 FJ40. It's body, frame and mechanicals are in perfect condition excapt for the engine. The engine isn't included with the vehicle so I got it at a steal. I've completely rebuilt jeeps a number of times but don't have as much experiance as most of you FJ owners (Rich).
Any tips on engine's I should be looking @ I have the 77 tranny (4 speed) and transfer case that came with it. I've been looking at the downey - advanced adapters & Marks kits for the swap. any better suggestions? any tips on upgrades? would it be better to swap the whole motor - tranny & transfer case?
Rightnow it's a clean slate mechanical wise, just like to get feedback from people who have some experiance. I'm not going to be doing too much rock climbing more trails and such.

I know very little about Cruiser engines, transmissions, and t-cases. (My junk is all GM) Got lots of experience with broken axle parts though.

There are some on the board with lots of experience in that arena, though.
