Paid $500 for it 3 or 4 years ago. Swapped tubs and drove it around school for a week or two.

After the first build, it looks halfways decent

Then it went down hill...

What it is now:
Front/rear Dana 44, 5.38 gears, full spool rear, detroit front, 100" WB, TBI 350, sm465, twin stick Dana 300, 38" TSL's, Warn x8000i,

Blew my 4th 258 in January 06 after graduation while cruzing 60mph on a local lake in northern Minnesota. Sold most of the motor and tranny parts and started collecting junk for a Chevy swap.

Blew the motor a day after this shot

465 with adapter to Dana 300 installed on my tailgate.

Ready to put the 350 in

I collected enough parts and the 465 has been sitting in the back of my truck since July so I figured it would be nice to start putting shit together.

We towed the jeep to the driveway. This is one of the few times I havn't done major work on the jeep in the grass or in the snow. I am beginning to like concete.

The jammer is coming in handy again. When I was matting the tranny, I had the winch controller under the jeep so i could raise and lower the motor angle. That was nice.

I wondered how even two big guys can put a 465 up onto the bellhousing. I don't even know how to support it to jack it up. So what easier way then to use a 3/4 ton suburban to get it into place....

Here's the motor in it's knew home.

And here is a clearance shot. Should hang only a few inches below the stock setup.

Crossmember. Gained 3 inches or more of clearance by not using the stock mounting system.

Took a lot of calculations and fabrication to get the hydro clutch set up. But all the work paid of and I didnt have to redo anything and adjustment took 3 minutes.

Its 100% neccessary to get a driver's side manifold from a non IFS (or non 4x4) TBI motor. Otherwise it wont fit between the frame rails.

Few more mod shots of the clutch

This one bolts to the side of the 465 and replaces that inspection plate.

I had to modify my fuel cell to fit a GM in-tank pump. Not much room to work with here. This set up ended up falling apart because I was trying to go from 1/2 hose to 3/8 barb. I ended up having to by a -8AN flare to -6AN barb.

A tru-kool aluminum radiator. Very inexpensive and it appears to be good quality. Bought from Speedwaymotors.com for like $170...

Looks good. Nice setup.

nice work

I'm curious as to how other people manage trannys this awkward and heavy. This was a damn good idea though...not sure if I was drinking at the time or not.

i swapped in a 465 when my other one lost 3rd gear on the ground with a floor jack. dangerous, but somehow i got it in there....i like your way much better. jeep looks good too.... you will love not having a 258 anymore, best thing i ever did on my old one...

I miss the 258 and being 99% AMC. I had a decent setup on the last motor and it was a hard runner and was usually reliable. Had a ported/polished HO head, ported intake manifold, HO header, weber carb and an HEI distributer. Shit hit the fan when I blew the hole in a piston. Once I drive this setup more I am sure I wont even remember what the 258 was like. It's wierd having power... even if it is still a stock 350.

I put engine tranny & tc together on the floor then stuck it in my 48 willys

I fold my ws down and use a cherry picker from the top of the jeep. I managed to put the T18 D300 combo in my jeep in by myself this way.
