1985 toyota emmisons

have the emissions checked ? NO

have a converter? YES

during safety inspection emission equipment is "supposed" to be visually checked that appears to be in place and functioning. But NOT checking that it actually works

i went to autozone and a universal catalytic converter cost $72 but do you have to weld it on or can it be just slid on and if it has to be welded how hard would it be

do you know how to weld? there's your answer. it needs to be welded on unless it comes with some good clamps.

before 1996, there is no emissions testing, just visual inspection. I don't recall ever seeing my inspector looking under my jeep (a 1993 ) but you can take it, if it fails for that reason, then get the converter.
