1986 Ford Bronco Trans Information Needed

I just bought a new beeter... its a 1986 Ford Full sized Bronco. I got a great deal on it and it needs a transmission. Can someone tell me what transmission this thing has? It has the 5.0 FI engine in it, automatic, and 4x4. Thanks!!
 
Well - it would help if you said if it is a std or auto tranny.

If auto - it is more than likely an FAOD 4spd auto.

Got one here w/ about 40k on it.

I was thinking when i said automatic, it was obvious that I ment Automatic Transmission. How can i varify that what you say is correct on my trans, and what do you want for the one you have??
 
If it's the AOD (likely), the trans pan will be basically square, with the two rear corners tapered/rounded off.

The other option is a C6. That pan is also basically square, but the back PS corner has a deep notch cut out of it, so the pan is sort of L shaped.

The C6 shifter will say D 2 1 and the AOD will say OD D 1.

Either transmission will swap in place of the other. AOD is a 4spd, C6 is a 3spd, but they're basically the same length, and so long as the donor C6 has the smallblock bolt pattern, they'll swap. C6 is vacuum-switched and AOD is TV cable, but you can fix that.

Really want to sell the whole Bronco - Has lots of new stuff in it. Be great parts mobile for ya.
But see if you can ID the tranny you have now and we'll talk.

Not to cut my own throat, but to be honest, for a trail only rig, I would hold out for a C6.

I need y'alls opinion now....

its a 1986
5.0 EFI
Minimal rust, a few holes but no where near rusted away
Rear window does not work (held up by a piece of wood)
Engine starts and runs great (rebuilt 80K ago)
4 wheel drive works great
brand new ford manual locking hub and air filter included (yeah i know "big deal")
It has nearly new 31x10.50x15 BFG all terains with about 1k on them

I am the 3rd owner.

I really think i stole it

get in touch with orange150, my roomate sold him a wrecked bronco that had a solid shifting c6. he's since stripped all the good parts from it, i dunno if he had any plans for the trans or what.
 
nah not braging, just want some confirmation that i did good on my impulse buy :)
 
Someone told me that the C6 would not bolt up to the 302, is that the case?
