Meet Ginger!

She's a redhead with no sole when I obtained her, hence Ginger!

A 1987 4Runner 22re automatic with a bad motor. I got her with the help of another member on here chris2fsh and he kept it stored for me then helped get it running before I could get it home.

So far,
*Replaced engine with rebuilt 22re of unknown mileage but pulled apart and looked good replaced gaskets and installed in truck.
*auto to manual swap
*chased down some vacuum gremlins and got it running.
* towed from Raleigh to my place in Charlotte
* Installed falken wildpeak at3w 32x11.5x15
* stripped out interior fixed wiring to get dash lights and break lights and stereo to work
* installed amber dash light
* installed new rear speakers and refinished rear panels
* put down bed liner in the back
* power washed carpets and seats and reinstalled
* installed bj spacers, bilstein shocks, and zuk mod for the rear
* replaced cv axles
* installed a late model upper intake plenum and throttle body
* replaced pcv valve and grommet
*installed cv radio antenna( still need to wire it up and decide where to mount cv radio)
* painted grill and installed new bumper with the end caps
* Installed hella blackout lights (still need to wire them up)

Besides the bc radio and hella wiring,
I need to get the old rusted torsion bar bolts out and replaced with new ones I have and get the torsion bars lowered and car aligned, then starts rust repair! Debating on painting rims black and a soft top as well.

Got the torsion bars lowered and alignment complete today. Now to wire the lights and cb radio and fix my surging idle when the break is pressed

Idle surge with brake pressed is your idle turned up too high. Turn it down to spec, ~750 rpm.

I have it turned as tight as the screw will go and it's still too high, I'm thinking I must have a vacuum leak or something somewhere causing my high idle issues

yes, that is typically it.
Also, look up info on the diagnostic jumper set (lot of info on 4Crawler's site) and try jumping it into diag mode. That should change the RPMs at baseline. If it doesn't that tells you it's something in the AFM/air-mix interpretation that's off.

black rims looks nice on these trucks IMO. Soft tops are great but $$$.
FYI you can make your own bikini top pretty cheap. I have a thread or two on here (from a long time ago) on that.

What are your wheeling plans? To be honest, the BJ spacers are good for adding some height but in the long run they cause a lot of problems.
I ran the "zuk springs" in the rear for awhile too, in the end it was much better to just get some aftermarket pro comp leafs when I got to where I needed real flex and bounce.

I cleaned the throttle body adjusted the throttle stop screw, found the vsv for the ac idle up to be leaking so I bypassed that, and set the timing today. She seems to be running great!

I got this truck pretty cheap and this has really been a project for me to learn with, never really done this stuff before. I found the bj spacers used for $25 and the bolstering shocks and zuk springs used for $100 so since my rear leafs where shot, tires needed replaced to get driving and shocks were bad, I figured it was worth doing for $125 so I could get the size tires I knew I wanted and then get it running and kinks worked out before putting some more money into it.

I will most likely end up with the old man emu set up for this vehicle. Never really done much off-roading, but I'd love to hit some uwharrie trails and beaches at the outer banks etc don't really plan on rock crawling or anything like that.

I'm pretty set on painting the wheels black, also the more I drive it with the top on the less I mind it, really need to get it off seal replaced and painted then back on...just need to decide black or red.

It appears she's marking her territory so I'm going to have to figure out what's leaking and how to fix it. Just a quick look appears could be from transmission and maybe the differential as well

I was at dons "u pull it" in Monroe last week and they have a 85 runner with what looks like a good top. It's black. Everything else seems to be stripped. I think the rear heater is still in it.
