1989 4.3L chevy

i have a 89 s10 blazer with a fuel injected 4.3 i want to put vortec heads on it but im not sure if they will bolt right up. i heard the intake might not fit the the vortec head. would i have to buy a new one. if so would it be worth my while to switch to a carburetor in stead of fuel injection.
 
i have a intake and tb off of a 95 s-10 that is sitting in the shop i swiched mine over to a carb if ur intersted pm me if u want to know how to swich over to card i can tell u what all u need
 
The Vortec heads will fit the block. Your intake (TBI type) will not bolt up to the heads. The bolts on a Vortec are vertical, and the carb/TBI heads are splayed. Why would you want to switch to carburetor, is your TBI setup not working?
 
i thought if my stock tbi intake wont bolt up to the vortec heads would it be easier and cheaper to buy a new intake and run a carb instead of keeping it fuel injected. are the intakes different or will the carb or injection system mount on any intake that will fit the motor.
 
Your TBI setup won't fit. Yopu will need a manifold that fits the Vortec heads. Yes, they make carb'd intakes for the vortec heads and yes, it would be easier and cheaper to go carbureted instead of fuel injected. Of course fuel injection has its benefits, so you have to decide whether you want to carb it or stay injected. Depending on the vehicle year & registration, you may have problems getting it inspected if you go to a carb setup.
 
it also depends on which vortec heads you have. if theyre pre 96 vortech heads im pretty sure the tbi intake will work. its not worth the swap though bc those heads arent much better than the ones you have. starting in 96 they used vortec heads that are like the v8 vortec heads. better intake runners the different shaped combustion chambers. these are the better heads to have. the downside is you would have to run a carbed intake with a tbi to carb intake adapter. that intake alone is $350. the adapter is another 50-60. then youll have to get different injectors that will feed it. the stock injectors barely feed the stock 4.3 much less one thats been built. ive got a 90 4.3 in a s10 thats got a modifed throttle body a single 2.5in performance exhaust and a good air intake. ive got 5.7 injectors in it now and still had to play with the fuel pressure to get it to run right. i was thinking about this same swap but after i started adding it up, for me its gonna be cheaper just to wait and do a 350 swap later.
