1990 Ramcharger Alternator wiring ?

The circuit that controls the Charging volts in the ECM on my 1990 ramcharger is fried. so the stator and field wires are not energized. if I grond one of the wire it will charge a 18.5 volts the alternator has been tested as good.

I was wondering if I wire this Alternator like a old ford with and external voltage regulator. like this. would it work

I used this thread http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58251 when i wired up my friends xj which had the same problem, for some reason the genious chrysler engineers thought it would be good to put the voltage regulator in the computer.
