What is the largest size mud terrain tire that can be put on a stock 98 Jeep Cherokee?

It is stock ride height and has the stock steel 5 star wheel with the center cap that screws on them.

They would rub when it flexes. And no body lift on the Cherocar.

You'll have next to no rubbing, if any, with a 235/75/15. You could run a 30x9.50, but that depends on how saggy your suspension is, especially your rear leafs. Here's a pic of mine with 235/75 AT's:

This is me flexed out with sways still connected:

to add to the "whats the biggest tire I can run question", Ive taken my flares off and trimmed the rear fenders as far as I can and trimmed the fronts to match the rears. Mainly because I just like the look. Im thinking 30's is still the biggest I want to go before lifting. But curious, what would 31's do? Rub like all get out??

A just to confuse the issue a little, a 31" tire by X-manufacturer probably measures different than a tire made by Y-manufacturer

Hey man you need a nice lift for a decent price? i gotta 3.5 inch rubicon express lift that im gonna sell once i get money to buy a used 5.5/6inch lift probly rusty or skyjacker and maybe i could make thta a combo n toss in my 31 inch bridgestone Dulers for like 500 that includes 5 tires with 5 matching wheels i htink there american raceing wheels that were crome but powercoated gunmetal they fit togeather nice so i dunno man ? you interested? no worries if your not

My 98 XJ stock leafs sagged something fierce in the back... If yours are sagging even a little, especially when you are towing, I would remedy this before considering the, "how close can I fit tire 'y' before rubbing/breaking part 'x'..." I finally lifted to 3" and put on 31" BFG MTs. ...and then an 86 year old man T-boned me... ...go figure...

is it really that big of a problem to get 30's instead of 31's?

If I trade with 90jeepman, it has basically new 31s on it...he says spacers will make it good...I'm just asking for opinions...I love the look of the 31s...just no cash to lift it...

you can get like a 2 inch BB for cheap as hell

seriously?
SInce you're quick responding...
Would you...go 98XJ w 31s and a lift...

or 96 Grand Cherokee Limited...V8
Pulling my 17' Boat and an occasional lawn trailer...

I think the XJ is enough
But everyone is frowning on it...

the xj is enough to pull it...but if you could get the zj for about the same..you got two extra cylinders there..cant beat that..always good to have the extra power even if you dont need it
