2.5L jeep with 35's

^^ x2! If you actually wheel, you will have problems. On second thought, even if you dont wheel, it will still suck driving on the road with stock gearing.

I can personally relate an experience driving my son's 2.5 stock YJ after we put 31"s on it. With any type of headwind at all I couldn't use 5th gear.

In the long run you WILL have problems. If you wants 35s, you could look into swapping an 8.8 into the rear and regearing F&R to 4.88s. You will want to upgrade the steering whlie you're at it. Your jeep will always be slow, but the gears will definitely help. The D30 should hold up ok if you don't go too crazy, but the D35 rear will blow. I have been wheeling my 2.5 TJ with 35s for about 2 years and it's not that bad. I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to go back to the Jeep being my DD, but it is doable. I did it for about a year and a half. To get to 35s safely it will cost you a few dollars, but if you take your time and upgrade accordingly, it can easily be done, and you'll have a lot of fun with it. However, stock axles simply will not last in the long run.

yeah gears are necessary. i have the 4.0 on 35" tires and i had 3.73 gears and i couldnt use 5th unless i was runnin over 70, but i couldnt go much faster than that.

I have heard the rule of thumb is the D35 will blow with anything over 33" tires, and even at 33s you have to be easy on the skinny pedal.

I have 33's and a 2.5. 5th gear is useless. I can run 75 down the 4lane, but long hills slow me down. I wheel pretty good with mine, but I don't have the rear locked, so it keeps the axles from breaking.

I have the 2.5 with 33's and an auto it sucks. I have new 4.56 gears on the table just have to get them put in.

I wheeled my stock geared 2.5 for a year on 35" boggers. It was a little sluggish and 4low was actually like 4 hi but it went. I wouldnt suggest it but it can be done. I also have a friend that has been driving his 95 yj on 35s (stock gears) for the last two years and hasnt had a problem. It is up to you.

I had a 89 YJ with 35v14.50 thornturds.. never had a problem out of the rear ( D35 non C) untill it fell off of a tow truck when i had the yoke out and the pinnion went in and things broke. replaced it with a d35 c clip ( Limited Slip ) and wheeled the shit out of it. alot of wheel spin, Guess i was just lucky.. but say goodbye to your 5th gear it is useless.

True, I have the 4.0 as well, D30 and 9" w/ 3.73's and 35's. The D30 has had a bent housing and crackles and pops from time to time wheeling but it hasnt blown up on me. The 9" is great. 3.73 blow, I need some gears! 70 is my top speed too...... downhill.

My roommate has 33's on his D35 and has blown it up twice now. So he painted a dynomite stick on it.

... So no.. you will hate it and spend more in repairs. Do it right th first time!
