Has anyone else been seeing these commercials from Jeep, Dodge and Crysler? says you only pay $2.99 a gallon for the first 12,000 miles a year on the car you buy from them, for the next three years.

how do you suppose they can afford this or do this?

They'll probably give a discount up front based on the average Govt. estimated cost of operating the vehicle per year. I think one of the Nissan dealers is running a deal offering to pay for 1/2 the gas for two years. They are using something along the lines of that type of formula.

It's not that much money. Figure 36,000 miles, divided by 17 miles per gallon = 2117 gallons. Figuring gas is about $3.80/gallon, that is only $1,715 for the difference.

gas will be $3.99/gallon in the morning

I saw thew commercial a little while ago. They are offering to pay the difference between 2.99 and the retail price. The details are on the bottom of the screen. It mentions up to 90 days to start the account. The details are here:

basically they give you a card to use when you fill up that is linked to your credit/bank card. Then they calculate how many gallons you should use for 12000 miles a year. when you fill up they reimburse you whatever the difference is of the cost. so if gas is 3.99 then they reimburse you a dollar per gallon.
