With my 97 se I went ahead and regeared to 4.88's because I knew I would be going to a bigger tire in the future. If I had planned to stick with 33's I would have regeared to 4.56's.

awa0728 New Member Joined Apr 14, 2005 Location Charlotte, NC Apr 10, 2008 #3 I have a 2000 TJ, 6 cylinder, manaual. I went with 4.88s and 36 inch tires...works great. If you are sticking with 33's then 4.56 should be fine.

The 4 cyl wont like those 33's at all, hell it doesnt really even like the stock tires. Im on 32's and stock gearing, its not ideal, but its not terrible either.
