I hate the ladyfriends car. She called me about 5 this afternoon saying the check gauges light was on and the car was making noise. I came by to check it out, the jeep is overheating.

It is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 I6. I checked the basics, she has coolant, no hoses are torn/leaking etc. What appears to be the problem is that the electric coolant fan will not turn on. I really don't want to throw $100 at a new fan if its the relay. I can test to see which it is, but the thing that has me baffled is where the radiator coolant fan relay is located on this thing.

From what I understand I have to take the bumper off? Anyone know where to start or have any helpful hints? I'll be working on it after class tomorrow (after about noon) in case anyones interested in helping out.
Appreciate any help

I replaced 2 on my 99... Very well known problem..

Best way to test is....

Hotwire the fan, if it works, its pretty much the relay

To replace, its located under the Passenger side headlight, must remove the front bumper cover to replace.. very easy after the cover is off, 2 screws..

Cut a hole behind the passenger side headlight. That's what I did in my mother-in-law's WJ.

You can find the location online, just do a Google search. I cut a hole, replaced the relay, then JB Welded it back in.

Haha I didn't know about cutting a hole until after I pulled the front bumper. Update: pulled headlight, pulled bumper, pulled vacuum box and replaced the relay. Works perfect just really annoying to get to. Seriously who decides to put something there?
