My dads 2002 DODGE RAM oil pressure drops and the oil light comes on when he slows down. I think it is the might be the oil pressure switch, but not sure. any help would be appreciated

pressure

Put a manual pressure gauge in line and check the pressure. Then you will know what is going on.

The gauge does not read actual oil psi, it reads high/low/none. It's a common problem with dodge trucks. A new sender is over $150 at the parts store. There are cheaper one out there, try finding a dodge truck board, and search there.

I have a friend who's dad took his dodge truck to the local lube to get his oil changed. After he took it there he noticed the pressure dropped. He changed back to a mopar oil filter and his pressure went back to normal.

you know now that i think about it my truck started dropping pressure after i switched to fully synthetic oil. i may try mopar oil next change and see if that fixes it. thanks all who put in input and thanks to the thread starter

THANKS!

Man, I really appreciated all the help and suggestions. I used a manual oil pressure gauge and had around 55 lbs.of pressure, so that was a big relief. THe oil sending unit and the connector was covered with oil when i took off. WalMart changed his oil and the oil from their handtight oil filter was not that hand tight. We changed the sending unit and cleaned
the connector and put it all back together yesterday. SO FAR SO GOOD!!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR THE HELP!:bounce2:
