Front Passenger window motor will not work. I took the door panel off, took out the bolts holding the motor to the door, and there is 1 end of the cable that is still attached at the window. Looks like I need to be able to remove the cable to replace the motor. Anybody had this problem? How do I get the cable off the window? It is hard to see inside the door, even with a mirror.

try and pull the window down in the channel and see if there is a bolt or clip that attaches the window (or a metal channel that the window is glued into) to the regulator. Are you sure it's not the wiring broke at the gooseneck? Unplug the motor and have a friend work the switch while you use a meter or test light on the tabs/connectors in the harness side of the plug.

Just a warning

Our '98 the window was held in by retaining screws of some type. I had to replace the track. There wasn't a cable to the window but I nearly lost my thumb when I unhooked the regulator spring. It started to unwind and caught my thumb between the regulator bars.:shaking: Prolly should have goten stitches. So watch out if you end up having to dissasemble yours. Reassemble was no easy feat either. Third hand would have been nice.

This is a common fault and failure on the 2000+ GCs. I just finished replacing both my front pass and driver's side window regulators.

Your motor is fine. They are Bosche units and rarely fail. You need to replace the regulator (metal part with the cables). They break because the plastic rollers workharden over time. Both mine failed within 2 months of each other.

The Jeep dealer will want $300+ to replace. The dealer will only sell you the complete regulator/motor package.

I bought the regulators for both sides from a guy off Ebay that seems to have a small business going with this issue. Below is the link:

To pull the window off the cable, there are two clips on the bottom of the window that hold the pins into the regulator. One on each side. Pull them out and pull the regulator towards the inside of the vehicle slightly and then you can pull the window out completely. Make sure you pop pff the inside window felt strip one the base of the window opening.

Let me know if you need more help. This problem drove me nuts for awhile and the quote from the dealership was criminal so I researched how to do it on my own. Saved me a bunch of $$$$

My 99 had this problem when I took every thing apart then put back together they started working again. The back window quit working and I just pushed it up and down a couple times and it started working again.

70EB, were you able to test your motor? I took mine out except the cable was still connected, though it had slack, and the motor did not turn. Does that mean the motor is bad or just the gears in the regulator?

Both of mine that were bad had the cable snapped. Not sure how to test it if the cable is still fine. The parts that broke on mine were the platic connectors at the top or bottom of the regulator. The gears that connect to the motor should be fine. You can check them by pulling off the three bolts that hold the motor to the regulator to see if the gears are fine.

The link I provided above also has the regulator + motor in the rest of his ads. Not much more money and much less that what the dealers want.

I ordered the regulator and motor from the guy on ebay in the link in one of the previous posts. It took two weeks, but it finally got here and it works. He doesn't return emails. I emailed him twice asking if it had shipped and asking for a tracking number. So if anyone else orders from him, know that it takes awhile to get it and you probably won't have any emails returned. But it does work and is a heck of a lot cheaper than the dealer.
