My engine is destroyed! I am going to replace the engine. I have no idea what I am doing. My buddy works on cars but does not know what engine will fit or if anything else will be needed. If yall don't mind I really need some help on replacing this engine.

Honestly you should find another buddy who does know. They only put 1 V8 in the Grand Cherokee from 1999 to 2004, and that is the 4.7L. It was available in the standard version and the High Output version. The plastic cover on the motor under the hood will say "High Output" if thats what it is.

What makes you think it is destroyed? Does it just need a rebuild, or did rotating parts go through the block, or are there just noises that sound terrible?

I agree with Matt, there are a lot of things unique about the Grands that your buddy may not know. Do you have the 4.7 or 4.0 in there now? If you have the 4.0, your best bet might be to get a totaled WJ with a 4.7, so that way you will have all of the parts you may need.

Its a 4.7L I know nothing. There are loud noises. My guess is i took it to get the oil changed and filter replaced and they never actually did it so i went around 8,000 miles on dirty oil. Sucked through a bunch of coolant. One day it started making a knocking sound and lost 80% of its power. My guess is the head gasket blew. I dont have the $$ to pay someone to fix it so I have to do it myself. Since i dont have the know how on how to fix it its going to be hard for me to take it apart and fix it. My guess was to find a totaled WJ and take its engine. Really need help on ideas on what we can do.

If you are swapping a 4.7 for a 4.7 it "shouldn't" be too tricky. Good luck with it. I wish I could be a little more help.

An engine swap will run you significantly more than replacing the motor. Just a quick list of what is needed: a motor from an OBDII vehicle, new radiator, motor mounts, transmission adapter, wiring harness and ECM from newer motor. Also good luck getting things to fit in there without throwing a ton of money at it. Then you have to deal with the DMV and emissions crap. By the time it is said and done, you will have $4-6k in it.

I got a V8 block from wj that caught on fire should still be good its just the block tho!lol

As others have said, you'll want to find a 4.7 from another WJ. Check your local JY or car-parts.com. I'd tear your current engine apart first. You'll learn a little bit about the engine and possibly find something thats "fixable" without needing a new engine. If you were closer to Asheville I'd enjoy helping.

I've got an electronic version of the 2000 WJ FSM I can send you if you want it...
