My Haynes manual says the front hub and bearing assembly is sealed for life, and must be replaced as a unit. I take this to mean I cannot replace the wheel bearing for $30 bucks, but have to replace the entire hub assembly for $150?

I've never had it apart, obviously. Am I correct? I could have sworn I've read where people have changed just the bearing.

Exactly Chris, replace it as one unit, it is sealed. They are simple to change too, just pull the caliper, remove the rotor, 3 bolts and swap out the hub.

I really wasn't wanting to spend my Jeep mod money as Silverado repair money... ugh. Oh well, 5 years, 80k miles (that I've put on it) and only a water pump and now wheel hub, TRE's and ball joints as maintenance. I guess I don't have much room for complaining.

Well I got the bad one changed and what a difference a little play in a bearing makes with how the truck drives. It's like night and day. I'll change the other one tonight, then an alignment tomorrow since I'm due one anyhow.

Dang, too bad I couldn't have caught you earlier! I've got two of them that I just pulled off my truck and they only had ~15,000 miles on them!

Would you have delivered them? o_O

One of them was installed and returned. They were the only two in Autozone's system, and the Timken's were on back order from their supplier. So I got one of them for $100 instead of $150 and it's still warrantied for 3 years. I can't complain about that.
