Hey Fellas,
This year should be the 5th year for the 4x4 Poker Run at URE but I'm in a bind. Usually I have my private practice pay for camp. With the economy and people not having money to even pay for treatment to get their driver's license, the private practice is suffering.

So I am asking if anyone can help out so that we can still have the poker run this year. If we get an alcohol permit for camp, we would have to reserve all of camp. The hot-line can still pay for a meal but depending on how many reserve we would need to get a general permit and pay insurance. That's a lot of money. So does anybody know sponsors that would be willing to help with camp and maybe insurance/general permit?

I am looking at reserving for May 20 and 21st at Badin Lake Group Camp. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :D

More details would be helpful.

private practice?

treatment?

What would the sponsors get in return for their money?

I'm not familiar with yiour event so I have no idea what you're talking about. Others may be in a similiar situation.

You're right Chris - sorry about that. Momma always said I rambled too much.

For the last 4 years, High Country Help Center has had a 4x4 Poker Run at URE. This is an annual fund raiser although there has only been one year of great fundraising - 1st year - way under, 2nd year - broke even, 3rd year - did great!, and 4th year - broke even. The last two years had a heat index over 100 degrees so we are wanting to move the run to May this year. As many who have put on events, there are all sorts of costs involved. Camping has always been donated by Mid-day Counseling (my private practice). If there are 75 people or more, then I have to get a permit which also means I have to get specialized insurance. A suggestion to pull more people in is to get an alcohol permit at Group Camp. Again, another cost and a watchful eye by Ms. Walker and her team (for good reason). So far the donors get mentioned on the flyers, in any press releases and on the HCHC website. I'll give that to you in a minute.

So what is High Country Help Center (HCHC)? It will be a 24/7 crisis center hot-line that will serve the Primary Service Area of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Watauga, and Wilkes counties. We will speak to whoever calls. However, we need to raise just under $200K to get it operational for the first year. One of the components I have been able to offer and do to an extent which is free community education programs. I've been having a very successful workshop that has presented 4 times now and getting ready for a 5th this month that is focused on Wiping Out Stress. I am also getting ready to speak on Crisis Intervention Strategies and have spoken to EMS and schools about the Toxicity of Substances. All of this has been free. But I work it in around my paying job right now. I have applied for grants but they all want to see it operational first. Catch 22. So that leads me back to fundraising and trying to twist arms with the state. You can find more information about HCHC at: http://highcountryhelpcenter.wikispaces.com/High+Country+Help+Center I realized I never got last years pics and video up as well as sponsor links so I need to do that.

The sponsors in the past have been the raffle item donations. I've tried T-shirts once and it didn't pan out very well. I have had several people volunteer to help and all have been great. We tried a cake walk one year but it was so it, that some of it turned disgusting :(

So spelling it out -
Camping - @$267
Event Permit - $100
Insurance - @$200
Alcohol permit - I don't know yet
Food - @$400 (HCHC paid for last year)
Optional
Road signs - @$120
Donated items - various
Band - would be great to have but rates vary

Keep in mind, this is a non-profit agency that is trying to take off.

Does that help explain things? Many of the NC4x4 crew know me so that's why the first part was so limited and I apologize.
