Im trying to install my guages on my 22r.

The water temp guage needs to obviously be put somewhere where the water is. I have found some bungs on the top near the thermostat, but have a small problem...The guage has a screw in bung that is on the sender. It needs to be screwed into a larger bung in order to hold the sender in place (so it doesnt drop down or pull out of the hole in which it is placed. The only bung that i can find that will accept the bung thats on the line is too large to fit in any of the holes on the motor. Are there any other holes in which i can put them (larger ones?) Are there any bungs that go the opposite way? Larger at the top and smaller at the bottom?

Here are some pics:

This is the bung that is along the line (cannot remove):

This is showing how far it can go down the sending unit:

This is the large bung that accepts the line bung, but is too large to fit anywhere on the motor (and the smaller bung):

Screwed together:

This is showing the smaller bung and the line bung that will go in the motor, but will not seal up since the two cannot screw together (wont slide over the lip on the sending unit:

This is where I am trying to install it:

Does anyone have any other ideas? Anyone with experience doing stuff like this?

This is a larger hole...the large bung MAY fit here. Its on my propane mixer...i just wasnt sure if i can put it here (it may be too long...and it also may not even work here):

First off, if you want the temp of your propane vapor, install your thermo bulb there, that is a vapor port there is another on the opposite side of the vaporizer where you are drawing vapor from.
The bung ( aka adapter bushing) is available from AutoMeter
http://www.autometer.com/cat_accessorieslist.aspx?pid=11.
another fix is to open up the holes you do have and re-tap as pipethread to the desired size.

OK. I figured that wasnt a good place.

I have gotten some advice to drill and tap the collar above the thermostat (coming out of the Rad hose) for the fitting that works. I might give that a shot.

That is fine, but you will only get an accurate reading when the thermostat is open and flowing, if the T-stat fails to open, you won't know til after damage has been done. 22R heads don't like to get hot, they tend to crack and warp.

Some of the early 22re's have the temp sender on the top of the t-stat housing which you can see it this pic. (ignore the idle adjustment arrow)
