22r vs 22re

i have a 22re in my truck that went out whats the diff betwin a 22r and a 22re other then the efi can i put my efi on a 22r

yea, if the the 22r in question is a 85 or newer. Early Rs had different ports on the head, round vs.square

different cams......but i ran a "carb" cam with my efi swap up untill i sold my truck, so i am not sure if you will notice a difference or not.

The pistons in r motors are raised dome pistons and the 22re head is not domed for the pistons. They are more flat, I just ran into this problem, wanting to swap my re head on the r motor. I had to scrap that idea, but if you want to run an r motor in your truck you will have to swap the ignition stuff, since it will not be fuel injected.

I did the same back in the day with no problems (82 22R with 86 EFI system). I had to make an adapter for the knock sensor to screw into on the side of the block. It probalbly didn't even need that.
