22r water n oil

i got a 82 toy pickup and water is n the oil. i know can can either b the head gasket or timing chain cover. well i took the valve cover off n it does have the chain guides n they look good from what i can tell. so just wanting to know if they are any little tricks to find out if it is the head gasket or the cover without taking the motor apart. thanks

get a block tester and check for combustion gas in the coolant. or put a pressure tester on the radiator and see if the pressure gets to high.

get a pressure tester and put it on the radiator, look in the timing cover and see if you can see the leak.
