got my first toyota and got a little motor problem. when you give it throttle it wants to cut out and sometimes revs fine to 4000rpm and no more. had a bad gas tank and fuel lines on it. I replaced the fuel lines and running it outta a gas can for right now while working on it. could it be the carb being causing my problems?

Yea, I'd just replace the plugs, wires cap and rotor first. Then go from there.

goin to replace that stuff after i fix the major oil leak i got from the timing chain cover. Im thinking timing was off because the seallent and gaskets look pretty new.

Might want to check fuel line pressure and just ensure the pump is cranking out enough. If there was crap in the lines previously, it may have gummed up or wakened the pump.

Check the timing chain too while you're there. Now is a good time to put in a quality set with metal guides if it hasn't just been done.

Just did. When I dug into it I found out an old guide broke causing the chain to rub the timing cover and put a hole in it. someone tried brazing it togather warped the cover put it back togather half a** and screwed the gaskets up caiusing it to leak. I put a new timing chain on with the metal guides and dual links. geting a new cover this week and we will see if that fixes the problem. if not Ill put a weber on it and call it good. then its onto the backyard homemade dual swing shackle lift in the front. welded on one to keep it in place. hey the truck was 100 bucks almost rust free 82 so I aint complaining

Ok I got this new timing set. its a double roller chain. I put it back togather fine. but when I go put the crank pulley back on the new crank gear causes the oil pump drive gear not to sit down all the way not letting the pulley to sit alol the way in. so my ? is do they make a new oil pump gear to make up the difference or do i have to find a single roller chain?
