Have a friend that lost his t/c 2000 Durango 4.7 5spd. It's a 231D and i have a 231J. What is different?

D has a larger chain, and it’s rumored they have 6 planetary gears but I’ve read otherwise and believe that’s only the 231C and a select few Ds.
I have a broken 231D in my YJ, and since I have free 231J that’s what I’m putting in it.

When I say broken, my front axle shifted backwards and the drive shaft split my case.

Hopefully one difference between his and yours would be that the one you have doesn't have large holes in it.....

Snout length on the input also. (I have cut down ones too long with success) front output yoke configuration may differ also, though should be interchangeable.
