I pulled my case apart and replaced the VC that was going out- and everything went smooth till I got to the last snap ring ( to close the case back up ) and WHAT THE FAWK!?!?!! There is NO way standard snap ring pliers will do it! Every time you spread the ring it pulls it up and wont let it pop over on the bottom....is there a special set of pliers to do this last ring?!?!?! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Piston ring pliars?
Seems like it almost needs a GROOVE to catch the ends of the snap ring and be able to spread AND push down at the same time ( and also push the case back on AT the same time ) to get it to pop onto the groove?

I figured out what was happening- just like you said..... I had to pull the whole shaft OUT some- it was pushed so far back into the case that the snap ring would NEVER pull forward enough to fit into the groove- once I pulled the shaft out- and used a screw driver to pry the bearing out and caser back it poped right on- but I still had to "modify" a set of needle nose pliers- ground them flat on the outsides- then used a dremel to cut a "lock" groove into the outside to hold the snap ring- because the snap ring pliers I had ( $15 cheepies from Lowe's ) wouldn't open the ring far enough to get over the bearing. Thanx for the tip! Worked just like you said by pulling the shaft out some!
