Putting my 258 back together tomorrow and the Internet has conflicting numbers. Some say 85ftlb except #11 at 75 and others say 110 except #11 and it's at 100ftlb. Has anyone gone through this and what spec did you use?

Bolt 11 goes 100 all the others 110
Edit: 258 just shows 85 across the board.

What is this magic book you have? My Haynes doesn't have this info. 85 on all it is. Thanks!

Reason for the new head gasket is #11 and #3 were broken in my donor engine and the head gasket popped right at the #11 exhaust port. This engine was obviously rebuilt before I got it but whoever did it broke 2 head bolts. I'm thinking they went with the 4.0L specs and said f-it, not my problem.

It’s a Haynes...just a little more in depth. And it says something about putting a sealer/gasket maker on top of using a new head gasket. You want that part too?

Awesome but what the hell is perfect seal?lol Old gasket was most obviously dry.
That’s some old school stuff lol it’s Perfect Seal Sealing Compound. I’ve got a jar but I honestly don’t know if they make it anymore or if it’s still a thing. On old gaskets it was recommended to kinda help cold seat everything.

I have a felpro gasket ready to go. I'll hit up my local Napa ( they seem to have oddities) in the am and see what they have. The "old" head gasket on this engine was a felpro and likely only blew out because of the #11 bolt being snapped. There was nothing clamping the head down on cyl #1 on that corner. I appreciate all the info, @Drunktaco

Yeah man glad I could help. Like I said, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Just be mindful tightening down that front driver bolt that gets the sealant. The 97 XJ I had bought off of Craigslist had a hairline crack because the PO over tightened that bolt. Replaced the motor because of that SMH

You HAVE to put white thread sealant on the driver's front head bolt. Be generous with it as it goes directly into a coolant port in the block.
White teflon paste is what you're after. Any parts store will have it.

Yep and yep. That bolt was one of the broken ones. The manual calls for red loctite but if Teflon paste is better then that's certainly what I'll use. Thanks guys.
