So I am putting some push rods in my 304. I have read that the torque spec is 20ftlb on the retention nut.

my question is... is that 20ftlb what is needed if the lifter is under pressure or not? Or does it matter?

thanks!

Lifters primed or not, the rocker bridge bolt torque is the bridge bolt torque. Doesn't matter. What does matter is that the new push rods are the same length as the originals. Changing any valvetrain components in AMC engines makes them pretty unhappy pretty darn fast if they aren't correct. So if you happened to swap cams too, make sure you have enough lifter preload! (Don't ask how I know.)
