So, I'll be the first to admit that I am not the best at wiring. I read up, but still want to make sure I do something right. That brings me here.

I have a 1988 tbi 350 that I put the sepantine setup from a 99 4.3 on. The removed alt was a two wire plug. The new one is a 4 wire. I bought a 4 wire plug that fits the new alt, but want some more clarification, or instructions.

Assuming that the ring terminal is the same and goes to the stud on the back. Then there is the red and brown on the 2 wire plug. I have read about soldering in a resistor on one of the wires. I just want what is required to make it run without problems. Anyone here provide insight?

Depends on what the 4-wire unit is from. 4-wire units could use 2, 3 , or 4 wires depending on the alternator functions (like ECM control).

The two wires on the old alternator are a field enable wire (through the resistance of the "charge" lamp), and voltage sense wire.

It's from a 99 vortec 4.3. there are 4 prongs in the connector. I would assume they are there for something.
