I bought a bare bones 360 and it did not have a harmonic balancer on it. I am trying to put one on and don't know if it is internal or externally balanced.

I searched and found out that if my crank is forged then it is externally balanced. (is this correct)

If so then how do I tell if it is a forged crank?

Also on another note, what do you guys think about an HEI unit from Ebay?

Thanks for the help guys.

Never mind. Found out they are externally balanced...

Anyone know about the HEI though?

If you change the distributer change the cam drive gear (get a nice matched hardened set). Know lots of people who let those 2 gears eat each other up and put metal thru the engine.

I think only 401's have the nice stuff, even the block material is harder on them.

I paid 5x that for mine. Can't say about that one, by my D.U.I. dist. has worked flawless. Heck of a buy.

I recommend that one. SSWaters mentioned a matching set of dist./cam gears. You could buy new ones, or just swap the old distributor gear onto the new distributor.

Thanks for the recomendation. I will look into them. Since its not that much more I might as well do it once and do it right. I was just trying to find something good and cheap (I know, they don't mix) so I could get the old girl running for spring.

Thanks for the help guys :bounce2:

but seriously, either get a new matching set of gears or swap your old gear onto the new distributor.

yea, I think Im going to bulltear for matching gears... there goes another hundreed...
