360 headers

You will probably have to find a set of shorty headers. I recomend staying with the stock cast manifolds, the keep your torque range higher.

Heck no. Ive got the Edelbrock shortie ceramic headers on my 360 and it was night and day between those and the manifolds. The ole 360 flowing better and keeping torque low with manifolds is a myth, I have my dyno sheets.

Interesting. Everyone over on ifsja.org seems to think the stock is best but only from certain years, maybe you had the bad years.

I am planning on getting shorties but i need to know what will fit between the frame and motor. This is for a mopar 360, not an amc 360. I know they put some mopar 360s in some cj's, but i cant find any headers for that application. Will shortie headers work from a dodge truck or if there is a pair of long headerswhich ones fit. Its from a 84 dodge truck.

I know they make shorty headers for truck apps running a mopar 360. Summit makes a house brand shorty, or depending on your pocket book size my edelbrock dealer catalog also lists coated shorty headers as well (EDL-65643). Im pretty sure the mopar 5.2 and 5.9 share the same block so you could also cross reference.

I dont know about ifsja, but the headers on my amc 360 made a world of difference, the throttle is more responsive and it opened up gobs of power.

No CJ ever came from the factory with a mopar 360. Not that I've ever heard of, where did you get this info?

cjs only had 304s and the fsj's had the 360 - both amc of course.

I heard that the 360 came in some cj7s from more than one jeep mechanic, but I never knew how valid the info was. I figured it was right because it was from the dealer. I have seen a couple of jeeps with the mopar 360 in them though.

There were some cjs in the 70's that came with AMC 360's but none ever came with the mopar 360 because Chrysler did not buy AMC until 87 after the last CJ was made and no Wranglers ever came with V8's. Chrysler continued to use the AMC 360 until 1991 in the Grand Wagoneers

Personaly I would just use the stock manifolds. headers will not make much diference until high RPMS and unless you are working over the heads and the intake to flow better and instaling a biger Cam it is a waist of money. and then you have the PITA leaking header gaskets issue.

I put headers on my stock 350 in my J10 and If I still had the stock manifolds I would put them back on.

Yo Jon, whats the verdict on long tubeheaders then? Cause I got the AMC 360 swapped in my cj with the lungtube headers that run down outside the framerails, are those supposed to help any power wise?

longtubes will help on hp figures, but useless offroading. That crap wont last on the rocks.

If its a Moreparts 360 it was swapped in. The CJ was not offered with the 360, they had the 304 option with the 3 or 4 spd manual or TH400 w/Q-Trac. AMC or Chrysler built FSJ's could be found with its sixes, or the 304, 360, 401. The Grand Wagoneer was the last production built carburated vehicle in the U.S.
I agree with Carl about the headers, they are not going to improve the performance enough to warrant the cost. I simply port matched the heads and stock manifolds on my latest 360. I have had plenty of trouble with headers, but little to no trouble from stock exhaust manifolds
