So I'm in the middle of a building my LJ and have a Dana 44 in rear and a Dana 30 up front. I was just wondering how bad of an idea will it be to run 37s on a stock jeep LJ Dana 30 until I can find/build a Dana 44 to replace it. It would be only on road driving until the swap happens I just don't know how bad it how fast I will damage it. Ideas???

It'll be a ticking time bomb. Especially since those came with the lp 30 I think. Even with a truss, sleeves and gussets you're still pushing the limits there.

It will be fine on road. Unit bearings will wear faster but it won't explode on you.

Yeah I don't plan on wheeling it until I get the new front axle but just wanted to see if it would be ok to drive a little on the d30.

It'll be fine. I ran 36" Iroks (which are taller than any 37's out there) on my stock TJ D30 for a couple years with no issues. Went through a couple sets of unit bearings, but I also had 2" wheel spacers on it.

well.......I drove a D30 with 39.5s for 2years for pavement princess and played alot in the snow and never had an issue with the HD bearings so i'd say 37s will work just fine for street and you can actually trail ride it too..."trail ride" not any crazy wheeling.

2x^

There are several companies that make the HD D30 hubs, Alloy USA, Warn, Yukon, etc. Dana 30 Locking Hub Conversion Kit

But you can buy a lot of chinese unit bearings from Advance Auto for that price :D

Care to explain?
i always buy the Moog HD front unit bearings and get lifetime warranty on them and they are designed for severe duty use so i use those and i drove that Mountaineer Mobile on 39.5 for almost 2yrs before i sold it and held up fine and then even for the guy who bought it held up with 36s for another 1.5yrs before he blew it up lol. i mean sure most would say it's not feasable but after my 2yrs of running that big a tire, never acquired any play or noise.

So they are OEM stock replacements?
yes just the more heavy sever duty use and lifetime warranty too so if they wear out couple years later, just get new ones. i know you're thinking it's still for stock cherokee use and your right but that doesn't mean it won't hold up. i'm one to know since i've always ran 35s/36/ and 38s as common tires on my xjs and with new wheel bearings for years as DD never had issues but i'm sure most would disagree according to the specs and mathematics part of it.
