I have a 87 yj that i swaped a 89 cherokee 4.0 and aw4 into and i has been running fine for 6 months. Well i was sitting in it at luch letting it idle and after about 30 min it died well i cranked it and it fired right back up but when you touch the gas it dies or will just about die so i got it home and took the dis cap off and the rotor button was melted out in the center and the cap was cracked so i changed them and fired it up and it does the same thing so i changed the fuel filter and that didnt help so any ideas as to what it could be?

I had a similar problem with my work van. Turned out be a bad coil. Chris.

Had a similar problem with my 98 4.0 after replacing sensors and everything i could think of idle air, throttle position, fuel filter, fuel pump, wires, coil you name it i replaced it. It would run fine for awhile then randomly it would crap out. I could never get it to run bad when i wanted it to finally i just so happened to be at my buddies place and it turned out a faulty coolant temp sensor will make your truck do some weird things. try unplugging it and see if it will run.

ends up the vac line to the map sensor was stoped up thanks for al the help never wouldhave found it if i wasnt looking at the temp sensor.
