4.0 exhaust manifold?

I just got my new exhaust manifold for my yj i ordered. It looks great but am curious to what these coil looking pieces welded to it are.
 
sounds like the "newer" design fix with flex sections added in. I thought YJs used a cast iron manifold, but the TJ/XJs used a tubular header type manifold, and would crack after a few years.

my yj has a tube type on it, it looks same as new except for the flex points. Did this design make a diff. as far as cracking
 
I just got thru putting my second one on my TJ. The last one I bought was a cheap Chinese one that had the flex pieces in tube 1 and 6. It lasted three years and through some big jolts on the trail. But it still broke. I went with a better quality one with the baffles this time. It has a lifetime guarantee. I am hoping I get at least 5 years out of it.
