i've got a 97 zj 4.0 and the head went south on me....luckily the head was the only thing damaged so now my problem is finding out what year and model 4.0 head will fit for me.....if anyone can help please shoot me some ideas.... i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

The '96-'98 4.0's use the 0630 head, so you can get a head from any of these model years. I also think you can use a 7120 head from a '91-'95 4.0L. Supposedly the 7120 head has the largest ports and is the best for performance.

all 4.0, as long as it's the h.o. (91+) should be the same until you get into the newer ones with the newer casting.

thanks for the help... i think u answered that question for me already but i erased the pm and could'nt remember...if u still got that head as soon as i get mine tore apart and make sure thats my problem i'll be gettin up with u...thanks again

In your case, ANY 4.0 heaad from 91-06 will bolt right on without any issues at all.

Going backwards and installing an older HO head on a newer (2000-2006) 4.0, would have some difficulty with bolting down the coil pack.

Basically, find a 91-06 head and bolt it down.

Intake/exhaust manifold bolts- 25 ft/lbs
rocker arms- 24 ft/lbs
head bolts- 50, then 75, then 110 ft/lbs, with teflon thread sealer liberally coated on the drivers front head bolt (goes into a water jacket)

I've been into way more 4.0's than most, trust me here.
