I have a 86 cj7 with a T5 tranny and want to know if a 4.0 will bolt up. Also will the T5 handle the extra power. I'm try to put my old jeep back together and the 4 banger needs a rebuild. :shaking:

I personall had a t-5 behind a 4.2 with 35" tires. It didnt last but about a year with easy driving. It probably would be OK with stock tires and easy driving. i swapped to a tf727 auto from a Wagoneer after that and have had no problems.

Thanks, Just tring to find a good swap right now and don't have alot of money with a new born. It has the 350 sitting in it and needs carb.,tranny, wiring, header, and lots of little things. Maybe its going to be a slow project. Just wanted to wheel at Uwharrie this year. O well

there's a tranny, t-case and rear end out of a '96 xj in the parts for sale forum.

If its the auto tranny the AW4 is pretty bomber. Regardless there's a cheap tranny there thta's more than likely 4.0 bolt on.

www.cjoffroad.com will be your friend. They have an entire forum dedicated to it. Also, if you have any specific questions PM me as I'm about 90% done with mine, just waiting on another fuel pump so I can have correct fuel pressure and tying up some loose ends.
