My daughter has a 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ with just over 200k miles.

Once you run the jeep for 20 minutes or so and shut the engine off, it will crank with a hard idle. No check engine lights, dull power for a couple minutes until you get going again. After that, it runs like a champ again. Only happens once you have ran, shut off, restarted. Just to be clear. Runs with no issues unless you shut it off.

Any ideas? Hoping to take it to the beach this weekend and a quick fix would be awesome.

All the above replies are dead nuts correct. In addition, when/if the cat converters at the manifold s get inefficient or partially clogged, it will great magnify the condition. Just a heads up.
Start with the heat shield as noted and be prepared to dive a little deeper and make the cat converter housings a little lighter if needed.
