4.2 to 4.0 Engine Mounting Problem

I'm repowering from a 1982 4.2L to a 2004 4.0L and al told that existing engine mounts should work. However, I seem to have a slight problems with them. My 1982 block on the driver side has the top boss that is not in the same vertical plane as the other 2 bottom bosses. The 2004 4.0L block has all 3 bosses on the same vertical plane. Do I have to machine the top boss down (about 1/2 to match my old block)? or is there another driver side mounting bracket I can use? Also, looks like I'll have to grind off a little bit of my passenger side bracket to clear a block rib.

I did this swap for a friend , but he had a 94 4.0 block and it bolted up no problem. I guess the newer blocks are different. Advance Adapters might be able to answer your question if nobody else on the board pipes up.

if you use the 4.2 crank and rods and put them in the 4.0 you will have a 4.5 litre stroker. theres a few other small pieces .. but back to your question, it should mount right up. like the guy above me said try advance adaptors,
