FAYETTEVILLE
A 4-year-old girl was killed Sunday when she and four other people were thrown from a vehicle when it flipped over.

Two other children were in the small four-wheel-drive vehicle,

The accident was reported at 2:37 p.m. in an area known as The Pit, Green said.

The only way to access the area is with a four-wheel-drive vehicle, Green said. The Pit is a hole in the ground and is a popular site for four-wheeling, he said.

.,a 32 old male, was driving the small car up a steep incline when it got stuck, Green said.

"He locked it in four-wheel-drive, stepped on the gas and it (the vehicle) tumbled over, end over end, down the hill," Green said.

None of those in the car, including were wearing seat belts,

The investigation has been turned over to the Sheriff's Office at the request of the district attorney, Green said.

No charges have been filed, Green said.

I agree with above statements.

The loss of life is unfortunate. Sounds like an inexperienced offroader. However, the article didnt seem to contain much bias against fourwheeling or Trucks/SUVs.

I am curious about the sheriff's office investigation? is that standard policy? what is to be investigated? I hope they werent trespassing.

I don't believe this is a legal wheeling spot (unless someone has got written permission from the land owner)

That is really sad, my prayers for that family and dad, he will live with this for the rest of his life.

Whenever anybody dies, pretty much anywhere except teh hospital, there is an "investigation". Of course 90% of the time it is an open-shut case.

Yes, real shame when children pay for parent's stupidity.
A painful example of evolution in action.

That was some bad writing. Do you notice how often "Green said" closed a sentence?

I hate it for the family. Can't believe no seatbelts were being used.

I hate it for the families involved. LIke was stated above, the driver will have to live with this situation the rest of his life.

As for a 4 year old not needing to be there....I disagree....as long as safety is a priority.

I took my son on his first trail ride at URE when he was 3. He loved it! Difference was that he was in his seat, with extra belting (seat to the jeep) and he wore a helmet. I also didnt do anything too difficult...and quickly assessed any questionable lines.

I had alot of folks at URE did laugh at us (me, the wife, and son) because he was belted in so well and wore a helmet.....they thought it was overkill...especially the helmet. I guess when you work with individuals with head injuries (the wife and I both do)...you take every precaution you can.....my son even wears a helmet when driving his powerwheel jeep hurricane.....

.

yeah, i know. just curious as to why the journalist decided they needed to point out that the DA handed over the investigation to the sheriff? was that for journalistic purposes or was there really something there to investigate.

Im not trying to create some conspiracy theory here, just frustrates me when journalist try to add more drama to an already bad story.

i hate to hear that i know the fellows that own the land its open to the public every sunday to hit a few mud holes

we'll see how much longer that lasts
